We are specialist underwriters in Cargo, Specie, Hull, Liability and Bloodstock classes. Our team is recognised as a well-established leading syndicate in the Lloyd's subscription market place. We have recently enhanced our offering by starting up a new Bloodstock portfolio with two long established and experienced specialist underwriters.

We underwrite from our box in Lloyd’s on the ground floor (numbers 60 and 60A) which, combined with our conveniently located offices opposite Lloyd's, allows our brokers easy access to our Underwriters and Claims Manager.

In a subscription market, our clients are our brokers. We assist in developing different bespoke insurance products daily and regularly meet with our mutual customers in partnership with our brokers to better understand their business requirements. We have a reputation of being solution-led and will always look for innovative ways to write even the most complex risks.

Additionally, as a member of Lloyd's, we also have direct access to the wealth of detailed, up-to- the-minute information available through their global intelligence resources and worldwide network. .

We have an exceptionally experienced team of underwriters with a very extensive knowledge base and range of expertise. We have built a strong network of close working relationships with consultants providing specialist support including loss control and risk management.

Located around the world our risk management consultants, who include diamond surveyors in Antwerp heavy lift risk consultants in South America and specialist marine surveyors, give us direct access to impartial advice and information for the benefit of our brokers and customers.

Cargo

We lead a substantial volume of business specialising in Commodities, Stock Throughput, Excess Stock and Project Cargo and Delay in Start-up (DSU).

Specie

We cover the whole range of Specie products including Private Fine Art collections, Museums and Travelling Exhibitions.

We also offer a full range of Diamond and Jewellery related products from Block policies for wholesalers, retailers, manufacturers, coverage for mining risks and processing as well as transits and sendings. We are the lead underwriter on a number of very high profile risks in this field. In addition, we participate in the Cash in Transit business writing many of the world's major armoured car carriers, excluding Italy.

All other areas of General Specie are considered and some, such as vault risks and XS SIPC, are target business.

Hull

We underwrite a broad spectrum of Marine Hull products, including hull & machinery cover for a wide range of vessel types such as dry and wet bulk cargo carrying vessels, passenger ferries and RoRo's, LNG and LPG carriers, chemical and product tankers, cruise vessels and yachts. Our primary focus is on vessels utilised in specialist operations and those working in support of the offshore energy industry. We also underwrite a large portfolio of builders risks, war, increased value and other hull ancillary interests. We are an experienced underwriting team with leadership capability in all of the risk types written.

Liability

We write a broad based Marine Liability account insuring ship owner's Protection & Indemnity (P&I), charterers, ports & terminals, ship repairers and related marine coverage. We write direct and reinsurance business at primary and excess levels with a global customer base and a solid commitment to understand their businesses.

We have expanded our offering to encompass Offshore Energy Liabilities. We now write a cross-section of offshore operators, contractors and oilfield service companies including offshore construction projects located around the world.

Bloodstock

Mitsui Sumitomo at Lloyd's offers a comprehensive insurance solution for high value horses through specialist insurance brokers and agencies across the world. Coverage is for all risks of mortality and theft, with additional covers including stallion infertility, prospective foal insurance, and life saving surgery, colic surgery and transit insurance.

Cover ranges from the top thoroughbred racehorses and breeding stock, to successful sports horses including dressage horses, eventers and show jumpers. The team is passionate about horses, and can offer our customers a flexible, innovative and supportive approach to both insuring their animal and in the unfortunate event of a claim.

Claims

The Marine Claims team at Mitsui Sumitomo is led by Eddie Cara who has over 30 years of experience of adjusting Marine claims.

We aim to deliver a high quality, proactive and transparent claims service for our clients by providing a top quartile service to our customers by building strong relationships and being open and transparent.

Our Marine claims team through their wide range of technical expertise, search for ways to find solutions to problems and issues, by fairness in their decisions and they are always willing to explain their thinking. This highly effective claims management is an integral part of our overall Marine offering.

This commitment to a high quality service is provided through a hybrid combination of in-house claims handling and using Third Party Administered claims handling, which is controlled and overseen by our in house Marine Claims team. We believe that by working closely with a TPA we are able to provide fast and efficient claims handling, and, combined with the involvement of our in house team are able to respond efficiently and professionally to all claims, however complex and serious.

We provide a 24/7 claims service which ensures that help will be at hard the moment a loss is reported to us.

I joined MSIG in 2004. Immediately before joining the organisation, I spent two years working at a major broking house. Prior to that I was a company underwriter. I have more than 35 years of experience in the class and my areas of speciality include the diamond industry and fine art.
I joined MSIG in 2013 to underwrite the Marine Liability account. I have over 12 years experience in the Lloyd’s market. My experience is broad, ranging from established lead syndicates to start-ups. I attained my ACII status in 2005.
